Northern Adelaide
The Northern Adelaide region, as defined by the South Australian State Government, encompasses the Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Playford, Salisbury and Tea Tree Gully, and the Port Adelaide Enfield East and Inner Statistical Local Areas. DFEEST supports the Northern Adelaide Employment and Skills Formation Network in providing employment and training opportunities within the region.
The Northern Adelaide region has a relatively young population profile, with above average proportions of younger people (less than 45 years), and a particularly high percentage of school-aged children (5 to 14 years) compared to the State average. The region has high proportions of families with children. There have been above average population increases over recent years, and the population is projected to continue to grow at a rate higher than the State average.
Key labour force indicators for Northern Adelaide show mixed labour force participation rates, and above average levels of unemployment. Residents of the region were represented in above average proportions in Intermediate Clerical, Sales & Service Workers and Tradespersons & Related Workers while relatively few residents were employed in higher level occupations compared with the State.
The general level of education and qualifications in Northern Adelaide is below the State average, with relatively low levels of school achievement and post-school qualifications.
With relatively high unemployment rates and mixed workforce participation, the population of the Northern Adelaide region is less secure in economic terms than the average. The region records mixed income levels and high proportions of houses with mortgages, and above average levels of income support recipients.
