Industry Workforce Profiling
Our industry workforce profiling provides details of industry and workforce characteristics across a range of industry divisions.
Our profiling is organised in accordance with the Australian Bureau of Statistics Australian and New Zealand Standard Industrial Classification (ANZSIC) which estimates the industry size and percentage of the South Australian labour market that is employed by each sector.
Industry Workforce Summaries are created to provide initial information for the development of Industry Workforce Action Plans and are meant to complement a range of sources used in their development.
The summaries cover 17 industries, with one summary covering all industries. They provide information on a range of areas including:
- workforce numbers / numbers of people employed
- age and gender
- occupational make-up
- qualifications
- regional spread
- employment trends: current and future.

The Food, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Skills Advisory Council SA Inc (FTH) with funding from the Workforce Development Fund, undertook the development of the South Australian Wine Industry Employment Strategy (SAWIES) in 2006-2007.
This important industry initiative had the support of the State Government primarily through the Department of Further Education, Employment, Science and Technology (DFEEST) and additionally through the Department of Primary Industries and Resources of South Australia (PIRSA), the SA Wine Industry Association (SAWIA), and the Liquor, Hospitality and Miscellaneous Union SA Branch (LHMU).
While a number of wine industry reports have been completed in the past years, they have rarely addressed workforce development issues. In the absence of consolidated workforce data, the Workforce Planning and Policy Directorate (DFEEST) provided a Workforce Profile based on 2001 labour force data for the first stage of the SAWIES project.
